Bundibugyo Ebolavirus Outbreak — DRC & Uganda (17th DRC Outbreak)

DRC's 17th Ebola outbreak, confirmed Bundibugyo ebolavirus. Latest data (10 July, ECDC): DRC 1,792 confirmed cases, 625 confirmed deaths; Uganda 20 confirmed cases, 2 deaths; total 1,812 cases, 627 deaths (CFR 35%). WHO DON 612 (3 July) reports global 1,481 confirmed / 454 deaths (DRC 1,460 / 452; Uganda 20 / 2; France 1 imported). Outbreak has spread to 36+ health zones across Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu; Ituri remains epicentre with 1,631 cases / 535 deaths. North Kivu 158 cases / 89 deaths; South Kivu 3 / 1. Two additional suspected cases in Kisangani (Tshopo province) linked to Ituri are under investigation and not yet included in totals. Uganda last confirmed case 21 June; no community transmission documented. At least 102 health workers confirmed infected in DRC, 25 deaths. International export cases: one U.S. healthcare worker medically evacuated to Germany (May), one imported case in France (24 June). Contact tracing follow-up rate improved to 78.6% in Ituri and North Kivu. No approved Bundibugyo vaccine or treatment; WHO SAGE evaluating candidates. UNICEF launched Level 3 corporate response. US pledged additional $50m to CEPI for Bundibugyo medical countermeasures, bringing total US Ebola funding to $270m+. In the past 24 hours: 26 new confirmed cases (Ituri 21, North Kivu 5) and 11 new deaths. Outbreak has spread to 31 health zones across Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu. Ituri accounts for >91% of cases. North Kivu CFR remains high at 57%. Uganda has reported no new cases since 5 June. Contact tracing ongoing for ~6,470 contacts with 63% follow-up rate. As of 10–11 June: 695 confirmed cases (DRC 676, Uganda 19) and 138 confirmed deaths (DRC 136, Uganda 2), plus 1 probable death. Since 8 June, DRC reported 161 new confirmed cases and 45 new confirmed deaths. Uganda has reported no new cases for 6 days. Outbreak spread to 29 health zones across Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu.
